Wooley's Weekly Winners 6-1-12
By: Ryan Wooley
With another week in the books it's time to bring you my weekly winners for the final week in May. As always, let me know who you would add to the list via the comment section below or on Twitter @WooleyMammoth85.
Nick Lidstrom
It should come as no surprise that the Captain would be put on the list this week after announcing his retirement following 20 years in the league. Lidstrom has and will always be the true example of what a professional athlete should be and it's nice to see him go out on his own terms. He undoubtedly will go down as one of, if not the greatest defensemen to ever play the game and I look forward to when the Red Wings hold Nick Lidstrom night at the Joe and retire the #5.
Bill Ford Jr.
With the recent off the field issues the Lions have been going through with Mikel Leshoure, Nick Fairley and Titus Young, it's refreshing to have the owner of your team come out and make bold statements that the younger guys better get their act together. It's not very often we hear from either Sr. or Jr. but when they speak, something typically happens. Remember when Jr. went public about Matt Millen? Two days later he was looking for a job. Hopefully the same can be said here. If these guys keep messing up, drastic action will be taken.
Rajon Rondo
How many times have you heard someone say something controversial that you were thinking and were happy they said it? Well that's what happened with Rajon Rondo after game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals as he called out both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, saying they need to hit the deck when driving to the basket. I think it's safe to say that most everyone that has watched NBA basketball knows that there is way too many times when a player goes to the hoop untouched and how infuriating it is when you breathe on a superstar and you get fouled. Of course Rondo's comments didn't sit well with the Heat players but the Celtics brought an aggressive style of play in game 2 and Rondo put on show for all ages, playing every second of the game, putting up 44 points, 10 assists and 8 boards. Unfortunately Boston lost the game to fall down two games to none, but Rondo and the Celtics made a statement. Now let's see if they can duplicate it in game 3.
