Woman To Stand Trial In Fatal Stabbing On Detroit Bus
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 29-year-old Detroit woman has been ordered to stand trial in the fatal stabbing of another woman during an argument on a public city bus.
Tiffanie Edwards appeared Thursday at a preliminary examination in 36th District Court.
Edwards is charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Charla Williams last month.
Police said the 50-year-old victim was stabbed in the face and body with a knife in the afternoon of Aug. 26 on the city's west side.
Following a verbal dispute, witnesses said, the victim bumped into the suspect with her walker as she was getting of the Detroit Transportation Department (DDOT) bus. That's when the younger woman allegedly pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the older woman.
Edwards was arrested after a bus passenger's cellphone video of the attack was aired by news outlets. It led to a tip to police.
DDOT has put security cameras and police on buses to improve safety.
