Woman Finds Threats, Slurs Inside Home Destroyed By Arson
NOVI (WWJ/AP) - A woman says threats and slurs were written throughout the suburban Detroit home she shared with her same-sex partner that was destroyed by arson.
Tawana Williams told WJBK-TV the home in Novi was burned down while she and her partner, Stacy Baker, were on a honeymoon in Las Vegas.
"Our wedding gifts are still in there. My gown, I just got it from David's Bridal, it's still in there. My home office, the printer. Now I'm just like thinking about everything I lost," Baker said.
Williams said the threats and slurs were written on the refrigerator, the walls and in the couple's bedroom -- some which made references to their sexuality.
The women are now staying in a hotel until they can figure out what's next. Williams said she will "pray for whoever did this to us."
The fire was called in early Monday and fire crews doused the blaze. No injuries were reported.
Police say they're investigating and seeking tips. A sign offering a $5,000 reward to anyone with information about the fire is posted at the home.
