Woman, Teen Attacked By Family Pit Bull
OXFORD TWP. (WWJ) - An argument between a mother and her daughter ended abruptly when the family pit bull attacked the 16-year old and then bit the mother.
The Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home on Gibson Street in Oxford Twp. around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. They found a woman on the porch with a leg wound from a dog bite. The teen was attacked inside the home with other children locked in their rooms, while the dog roamed the home.
According to a statement from the sheriff's department, while rescuing the children from the home, one of the deputies saw the pit bull, which came at him, "growling and showing its teeth. The deputy protected himself and the occupants of the home by shooting the dog."
The dog went outside and was put down by deputies.
The other kids at the home during the attack were two 12-year old girls and an eight-year old daughter.
The victims were treated by medical personnel from the Oxford Fire Department and transported to POH Medical Center. The mother was admitted for treatment. The daughter was treated and released.
The investigation shows the dog attacked the younger victim during an argument with the mother. The mother was then bitten when she tried to get the dog off of her daughter.
An Oakland County Animal Control officer responded and removed a second pit bull from the home.
