Woman Slips Out Of Handcuffs, Jumps From Moving Cop Car
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - A 19-year-old is facing several charges after she tried to escape custody by jumping from a moving police cruiser.
Macomb County Sheriff's deputies first made contact with Marlesha Downs around 6 a.m. Monday after responding to her mother's house on Michigan Street, near North River Road just west of I-94.
Deputies spoke with the 42-year-old mother, who said she was assaulted by her daughter. Deputies then went upstairs and confronted Downs, who was screaming and throwing items around.
After putting up a brief fight, Downs was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle. While en route to the county jail, Downs managed to slip out of the handcuffs and kick out the back window of the patrol car before jumping from the moving vehicle. Deputies caught Downs after a brief foot chase.
Downs was arraigned Tuesday in the 41 B District Court of Clinton Township on charges of domestic violence assault -- second offense, malicious destruction of property, resisting and obstructing, and escape from lawful custody. She remains jailed on a $10,000 bond.
