Woman Sent Emails To Friends Saying She Was 'Molested' Before Slaying

HOLLAND TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Emails obtained by investigators say a western Michigan woman told friends she had been sexually assaulted by a relative before she was killed and her father died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Stacey Grotenhuis, 31, wrote friends to say she had been "molested" by a relative that wasn't her father, according to a report in The Grand Rapids Press. The messages were contained in search warrant affidavits compiled by police in the investigation of her death.

Grotenhuis was found Oct. 5 inside her father Gary Volkers' Holland Township condominium with a fatal neck laceration. Police discovered Grotenhuis' body when they arrived at the apartment to notify her of Volkers' death. She had been living with her father after moving home from South Dakota.

Authorities say 59-year-old Volkers died from a self-inflicted gunshot. His body was found near his vehicle in Osceola County's LeRoy Township, about 100 miles north of his home.

Investigators have said they are waiting to compile more evidence until they rule the deaths a murder-suicide.
