Woman Found Guilty In Road Rage Shooting Death

GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - A 25-year-old woman has been found guilty in the road rage shooting death of a Grand Rapids man.

A Kent County jury gave its second-degree murder verdict Friday against Jeannette Davis.

The jury found her 21-year-old brother, Jountay Davis, not guilty of being an accessory after the fact -- even though he drove her away from the scene of the Feb. 21 shooting.

Lance Byers was shot to death in February during an argument that followed a minor fender bender. Byers was arguing with Jountay Davis.

Jeannette Davis shot the 42-year-old Byers, claiming she was trying to stop the two men from fighting and that she never meant for the bullet to strike anyone, Mlive.com reported.

The siblings then left the scene, but Jountay Davis said he had no idea who had fired the shot and was just looking to get out of the neighborhood.

Jeannette Davis is being held in the county jail pending her Aug. 14 sentencing.

Chief Assistant Kent County Prosecutor Christopher Becker said the conviction calls for at least a dozen years behind bars and includes a mandatory additional two years for felony use of a firearm.
