Woman Found Dead Inside Westland Home, Person Of Interest In Custody

WESTLAND (WWJ) - Police have a man in custody who might have been involved with the murder of a woman in Westland.

The woman's body was found late Wednesday night inside her home on Avondale Street, in a neighborhood near Cherry Hill and Wayne roads.

Family members went to the woman's house after she failed to report to work and discovered her body in the basement of her house, wrapped in blankets inside a closet.

Investigators have not yet said how the woman might have died. She was identified by family members as 30-year-old Rachel Watson, a mother of four children.

Police are currently questioning a person of interest, described as the father of Watson's 1-year-old child, who was taken into custody Thursday morning.

Police say Watson was apparently planning to meet with the man earlier Wednesday to discuss ending their relationship. When she failed to show up for work later in the day, co-workers began to worry and contacted her relatives.

Karol Martin, who lives across the street, said police swarmed the otherwise quiet neighborhood around 12:30 a.m. as she was winding down for the night. They've been at the scene ever since.

"I was in the back room watching television and then I seen bright lights shining on the wall and I go 'What the heck?' So, we come out here to see what was going on and there's a lot of police," she said. "I was kind of worried about what was going on because stuff like this is scary."

Anyone who might have information on the case is urged to contact police at 734-722-9600.
