Woman Strangled To Death, Wrapped In Blanket Inside Detroit Home; Stepson In Custody
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police have apprehended a 24-year-old man accused of killing his stepmother, wrapping her body in a blanket and leaving her inside a home on Detroit's east side.
The situation unfolded around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 6000 block of Casmere, near Mound Road and Mt. Elliot Street. Police responded to the woman's home for a welfare check after neighbors said she hadn't been seen in several days.
Officers arrived at the home and found the 57-year-old woman's body wrapped in a blanket in the basement. She had apparently been strangled to death.
After identifying the woman and speaking with neighbors, police apparently had reason to believe her stepson might be involved with her death.
Investigators contacted police in Warren, thinking the stepson might be at a location in the city. Shortly thereafter, Warren police located the stepson at a gas station and tried to stop his vehicle, but he fled from officers and drove into Detroit.
Warren police notified officers in Detroit, who then headed to another location the stepson was known to frequent. Eventually, the stepson showed up at the location and was taken into custody without further incident.
An investigation is ongoing.
