Woman Charged In Hit-And-Run That Critically Injured Teen
HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) - A 58-year-old Milford woman has been charged with a hit and run accident that critically injured a teen in Harrison Township last weekend.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said Margaret Fronczak was arrested Friday and charged with failing to stop at the scene of a serious injury accident. Bond was set at $50,000.
Police say Fronczak veered off the road near Jefferson and Crocker just before 11 p.m. on June 16 and hit a 17-year-old Kara Duquet as she was riding her bicycle home from work. Police say Fronczak, who was driving a Toyota Corolla, fled the scene after the accident.
Duquet was taken to a local hospital, where she remains in serious but stable condition. The teen suffered fractures all over her body and is expected to remain hospitalized for two months.
Investigators became suspicious of Fronczak after they were contacted by an insurance adjuster at a collision shop who noticed the damage on a Corolla and contacted police.
"On the 18th she dropped off the vehicle, claimed it got hit in the parking lot and didn't make a police report or insurance claim, was going to pay cash and asked how fast this could get fixed," Wickersham told The Daily Tribune.
If convicted as charged, Fronczak faces up to five years in prison. She's expected to be formally charged on Monday.
