Woman Charged In Attack On Parents With Hatchet
WYOMING (WWJ/AP) - A 28-year-old West Michigan woman has been charged in an attack on her parents with a hatchet and knife.
Amber Lynn Wilson was arraigned by video Thursday in Wyoming District Court on charges of attempted murder and felonious assault. She's being held without bond.
Wilson told the court she wasn't read her Miranda rights and asked if she could plead no contest. A not guilty plea was entered on her behalf.
Police say the couple was in their bedroom about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when they were awoken by Wilson standing over them, raising an axe above her head. Court records say Wilson told her 63-year-old mother and 74-year-old stepfather that they were "going to die" before swinging a hatchet at them in Wyoming.
Investigators say Wilson then swung the hatchet and hit her mother in the shoulder, before attacking her stepfather, possibly with a knife, who received a chest wound. Injuries from the attack weren't life-threatening.
Police say the stepfather was able to disarm Wilson, who ran and hid in the basement. The parents then escaped in their vehicle and flagged down a patrol car. When police returned to the house, Wilson was nowhere to be found. She was later arrested the same day.
Authorities didn't reveal a reason for the attack.
