Woman Calls 911, Responding Cop Now Charged With Sexual Assault
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Detroit police officer has been ordered to stand trial on charges that he sexually assaulted a 31-year-old woman who called 911 to report domestic abuse by her boyfriend.
The woman testified Friday during Deon Nunlee's preliminary examination that incident took place Oct. 30 in a home located in the 16000 block of Asbury at approximately 3 a.m. after she called 911.
The woman said the assault happened in a bedroom while Nunlee's partner was questioning her boyfriend in another part of the house. She contacted police internal affairs the next day.
Nunlee, who is suspended without pay, is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to penetrate and misconduct. A May 9 arraignment in circuit court has been scheduled.
Police Chief James Craig has said DNA evidence connects Nunlee to the sexual assault.
Defense attorney Antonio Tuddles says the case comes down to whether what happened was consensual or non-consensual.
