Woman Alleges Assault By Wayne State Cop

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Wayne State University Police officer has been suspended without pay while Detroit Police investigate a sexual misconduct allegation against the officer.

Police say a woman claims she was sexually assaulted by the officer near campus early Wednesday morning. They say the alleged victim is not a WSU student or employee.

This following statement was issued by the university:

"An allegation of sexual misconduct by a citizen has been made against a Wayne State University police officer. The incident is currently under investigation by the Detroit Police Department with the full cooperation of the University and our police department. Since this matter is currently under investigation, we cannot comment on the elements of the incident."

The officer's name has not been released. Wayne State police say they are assisting in the investigation.
