Wolverines 45, Cornhuskers 17
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - No. 20 University of Michigan answered the challenge as the Wolverines beat No. 17 Nebraska Cornhuskers 45 -17 Saturday at Michigan Stadium.
The Wolverines(9-2, 5-2 Big Ten) had not beaten a nationally ranked team at Michigan Stadium in years. The Michigan win eliminated Nebraska's (8-3, 4-3) chance at playing in a Big Ten championship game this season.
Michigan kept alive its opportunity to play in a BCS bowl for the first time since the 2006 season and moved into second place in the conference's Legends Division.
"We talked about .... playing as a team and we all were going to play with great toughness - it really helps your momentum as a team .. and if you get points on the board," said head coach Brady Hoke postgame.
Hoke said that he thought quarterback Denard Robinson played great football for the team. "I'd like to see him stick his foot in the ground a little more," Hoke added.
The Michigan win also secured Michigan State's spot in the Dec. 3 - Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis.
UM takes on Ohio State next Saturday at noon in Ann Arbor. "It's the greatest rivalry in college sports ... we can talk about that tomorrow," said Hoke about the upcoming game against Ohio State.
