Wolverines 31, Fighting Illini 14
CHAMPAIGN, Ill (WWJ) - Fitzgerald Toussaint ran for 192 yards leading No. 22 Michigan to beat the Fighting Illini of Illinois 31-14 on Saturday.
U-M bounced back from an upset loss to Iowa last week handing Illinois their fourth loss in as many weeks. Toussaint ran for a 121 yards in the first quarter - ending the day with 192 yards.
Quarterback Denard Robinson scored two rushing TD's - had one interception and threw for 92 yards before leaving the game with an injury in the third quarter and Devin Gardner connected for a TD pass to Martavious Odoms for his first touchdown of the year.
Speaking postgame on WWJ - coach Brady Hoke talked about missed opportunities:
"We've got to play Michigan football, we left a lot of points on the field the first half," said Hoke. "We've got to be much better next weekend ... that's for sure."
Hoke said that the good thing was that the defense stopped big plays to keep the Wolverines on top.
The Wolverines move to 8- 2 (4-2 Big Ten) as the Fighting Illini drop to 6-4 (2-4 Big Ten).
Hoke said that starting quarterback Robinson would be fine, "Denard is fine, he's fine."
Illinois had a chance to stay in the game - as each team had glaring gaffs; three turnovers by each. The Fighting Illini have lost four straight after starting the season in dramatic 6-0 fashion.
Michigan takes on the Nebraska Cornhuskers next week at Michigan Stadium.
