Wives Of Injured Detroit Officers Speak Out
DETROIT (WWJ) - The wives of two Detroit police officers shot Sunday, when a gunman burst into the city's 6th Precinct, are thanking the public for their support.
Peggy Anderson, wife of David Anderson; and Tamika Davis is the wife of Brian Davis, each spoke, Tuesday, at Sinai -Grace Hospital.
"My husband, Brian, and I would like to thank each and every citizen -- not only within the city of Detroit, but nationwide, for your continued prayers, your well-wishes and your continued support and encouragement," Davis said.
Anderson said she thought her husband was safe from the violence, because he wasn't working the streets.
"I was so happy when my husband took a job inside the precinct, thinking that, oh he's safe now. He's not on the street. He's not... facing danger every second like a lot of these officers are," Anderson said.
"[The gunman] came into their house. This isn't right. I mean, we have to take control of this city," she said.
Four officers were shot in all -- along with the gunman, who was killed. Two of the four injured officers have been released from the hospital.
Davis and Anderson remain hospitalized in stable condition.
Trauma surgeon Susan Seman said she expects Davis and Anderson to leave the hospital within a few days.
"Officer Anderson is recovering well. He is starting to move around and we're getting him up and getting rehab to help him, and assist him in moving, as well as Officer Davis," Seman said.
"We situated him for a back brace, and we're going to get him up and walking around and basically get pained controlled and see how he does," she said.
