With 44th Homer, Cabrera Takes Triple Crown Lead
3B Miguel Cabrera finished Monday night just two days from becoming baseball's first Triple Crown winner since 1967. He had a four-hit game to raise his league-best batting average to .329, and he cracked his 44th home run to break a tie for first with Texas OF Josh Hamilton, and he padded his lead in RBI. Angels OF Mike Trout, who also had four hits Monday, is second with a .325 average, while Hamilton is second with 127 RBI, 10 behind Cabrera's total. Cabrera's home run gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead and started a five-run sixth inning.
"We know, we believe we can do it," Cabrera said of Detroit clinching a division title it was predicted to win a lot earlier when the season began. "A lot of people didn't think we had a chance to catch the White Sox, but we did it."
1B Prince Fielder said, "Miguel is the best right-handed hitter in the game. I'm just glad to be a part of his team."
