Wings Invite Fans To Outdoor Practice For Charity
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - It's a chance for Detroit Red Wings fans do something they've never done before. At Noon on Saturday, Saturday, Feb. 18, the Wings will hold their first ever outdoor practice.
When the team hits the ice at Clark Park, fans will be able to get up close and personal with their favorite players.
"We've removed the fencing, and we put in bleachers -- three or four feet back from the board," said Wings spokesman Rob Mattina."So, you're gonna be really close and you should be able to hear everything Coach Babcock's saying as well as some of the comments from the players.
Mattina said one of the players will be wearing a microphone, but who that will be is a surprise.
After practice there will be a Q&A with fans.
The gates open at 11 a.m.. No ticket is needed, but there's only room for the first 2,000 fans who bring a canned good for Gleaners Food Bank. Alternatively, fans may make a $2 cash donation or bring pre-owned hockey equipment to be used by Clark Park and the Detroit Hockey Association.
The game will begin at Noon at Detroit's Clark Park located between Vernor and I-75. In the event of bad, the practice will be held at the same time at Joe Louis Arena
The outdoor practice is part of Hockey Weekend Across America and the Red Wings' ongoing Hockeytown Thanks initiative, presenting a variety of hockey events throughout the day.
