Wings Get Overtime Win In St. Louis
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) It wasn't pretty, but it was a win. The Detroit Red Wings get an overtime win against the Blues, 4-3 Thursday in St. Louis.
Wings goalie Jimmy Howard, who missed the last two games after bruising his right knee during Friday night's 3-2 shootout loss in Columbus, told the team's official website that he expected to be ready for this game after practicing Tuesday and Wednesday and he was, making 26 saves during the win Thursday night over the Blues.
Howard is 4-0-0 in his last four overall meetings with St. Louis.
The Wings had a 3-1 lead going into the third period but let that lead slip away. Bertuzzi, Eaves and Kindl had scored the first three Detroit goals.
St. Louis came back with two goals in the third; Oshie scored in the first, with Berglund and Backes each getting a goal in the third to put the game into overtime.
Detroit's Darren Helm scored in overtime for the win- easing the pain for the Wings, who had in recent memory blown a third period lead (but did get a 6-5 overtime win) Saturday night versus the Blue Jackets.
Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak continues to struggle against the Wings. Halak had lost consecutive games in Detroit earlier this season while allowing a total of 11 goals prior to a 4-3 home victory over the Red Wings on Dec. 23.
