Wings Beat Blackhawks 3-2 In OT
CHICAGO (WWJ/AP) - The Red Wings avenged last weeks loss to the Chicago Blackhawks - beating them in overtime 3-2 on Sunday night in Chicago.
As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - the Red Wings returned to Chicago after losing to Toronto 4-3 on Saturday, their second defeat in six games.
Ty Conklin in goal for the Red Wings had 29 saves - blocking off a pivotal penalty shot - that would have put the Blackhawks up by two goals but kept the game at 2-1.
Pavel Datsyuk banked in a shot from a bad angle off Chicago defenseman Nick Leddy for the winning goal 3:08 into overtime to give the Wings the win.
After Corey Crawford made two point-blank saves, Datsyuk got to the loose puck along the goal line to the goalie's left, whiffed once and then snapped a rising shot that hit Leddy and bounded into the open upper portion of the net as Crawford was down in the crease.
That sent Chicago to a season-high fourth straight loss.
Detroit's Dan Cleary scored with 4:45 left in regulation to tie it at 2 after Henrik Zetterberg fired a loose puck into traffic in front. Valtteri Filppula also scored for the Red Wings.
Dave Bolland and Patrick Sharp scored goals 44 seconds apart early in the first period, but the Blackhawks lost for the fifth time in six games following a 9-1-1 run.
With the night off Jimmy Howard will have to put on hold his goal of 100 career wins.
