Wings 5, Stars 4
DALLAS (WWJ/AP) - The Wings scored early and needed them all to beat the Dallas Stars 5-4 on Tuesday night.
As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - Detroit scored three in the first period - Valtteri Filppula scoring first and Jiri Hudler added two before the end of the first period.
Henrik Zetterberg, the third member of the line, had three assists. Johan Franzen and Cory Emmerton also connected for the Red Wings.
While Detroit (25-13-1) has won 12 straight at home, it had lost six of nine on the road heading into Dallas.
Detroit leaves Dallas (21-16-1) with dashed hopes of closing a three-game homestand on a positive note.
Jimmy Howard continued his winning ways in goal - saving 25 shots on goal. Howard made 31 saves for his fourth shutout of the season Saturday in a 3-0 home win over St. Louis. He outdueled the Blues' Brian Elliott for the second time in five days in a matchup of the two goalies with the Western Conference's lowest goals-against averages.
