Wings 4, Phoenix 2

PHOENIX (WWJ/AP) - The Wings took the wind out of the Coyote crowd early, scoring two goals in the first minutes of the game, the Wings take the third game in the series beating the Phoenix Coyotes 4-2 on Monday night.

As heard on 97.1 The Ticket Ruslan Salei and Drew Miller had goals 44 seconds apart to open the game.

The Wings scored early in each period to push Phoenix to the brink of elimination the win over the Coyotes.

Speaking post-game on 97.1 The Ticket Wings Head Coach Mike Babcock talks about the advantage of being up three games in the series. "We wanted to get started...today was a huge swing game...(being down) 3-0 is tough...so if it's 2-1 you are all fired up...we knew if we could get off to a good start it would help us," says Babcock.

Detroit leveled the Coyotes in its last playoff game in the desert, eliminating them with a 6-1 win in Game 7 of last year's first round.

The Red Wings put the lights out on Phoenix's whiteout this time with the two goals in the opening 2:41, another by Valtteri Filppula nearly as quickly in the second period and Johan Franzen's score 45 seconds into the third.

Detroit can complete the sweep Wednesday in Phoenix after struggling to get past the Coyotes last season.
