Wind And Rain Knock Out Power To Thousands
DETROIT (WWJ) - Heavy rains and gusting winds have left behind flooding, downed trees and power lines. DTE told WWJ Newsradio 950 that about 10,000 of their customers were without power late Thursday morning -- mainly in Wayne and Oakland counties. That number is down from 15,000 reported earlier.
The National Weather Service says more than three inches of rain was possible in places by the time the storms that began Wednesday wrap up on Thursday. Wind gusts could exceed 60 mph and 20-foot waves may hit southern Lake Michigan.
DTE spokesman John Austerberry said crews are out working to get the power back on. "With our full complement of crews, our own normal day-to-day crews, we can take care of this. It's less than one percent of our customers," he said.
DTE hopes to have the power restored to its customers by the end of the day.
Showerswere expected to continue into the afternoon, with light rain possible Thursday night.
