Will Bringing Back Casino Tax Help Save Detroit's Economy?
(WWJ) - Talk is starting at the state capital about reintroducing the casino tax to raise more money for the city of Detroit.
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing is looking for more money to balance his books and he's looking at the casinos one more time.
As WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports, this legislation to increase the tax on casinos was thought to be dead. But Detroit Representative Rashida Talib from is hoping to bring it back to life.
"It helps fund public safety. The casinos bring a greater need because of more folks coming into the city."
Talib said she wants to slap a 24 percent tax on the casinos to raise that new revenue, but she quickly adds that number is negotiable. Either way, the casinos are likely to oppose it.
