Wii Makes Math Fun

Kids in elementary school might have trouble with the math of paying a mortgage, or saving and spending money.

Nintendo's video game for the Wii, Animal Crossing: City Folk, has many of these concepts built-in, and can reinforce math skills as well. Designed for children ages 8 and up, the game sets down the player, in a village, where they need to buy a house, and then pay off its value through a combination of jobs. Once they do so, they can use their money to spend in the town store, or take a bus to the city for even more opportunities.

Play alongside your child to ask questions about his or her decisions.
