Wife Charged In Husband's Shooting Death
FLINT (WWJ) - Charges have been filed against a 54-year-old Michigan woman who allegedly shot her husband to death in the basement of their rural home.
Diane Arellano on Wednesday was charged with open murder, felony firearm and domestic violence for the shooting death of her husband, 65-year-old Michael Arellano.
According to police, Michael Arellano's stepson arrived home from work around 8:20 p.m. March 1 and found his stepfather laying face down in a pool of blood in the basement of their home. The stepson called 911 and paramedics rushed to the scene, but Michael Arellano was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators say Diane Arellano shot her husband twice, once in the chest and once in the back of the head, with a registered handgun. After the shooting, police say Diane Arellano drove to a nearby grocery store and disposed of the gun in the woods. Police have since recovered the weapon.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said Diane Arellano remains lodged in the county jail.
