Why The Spurs Must Win Game 7
By: Tom Millikan
Nobody wants to be remembered for choking. Just ask Bill Buckner.
Last night, the San Antonio Spurs possibly choked away a championship. They led the Miami Heat by 5 points with 20 seconds to play and lost in OT. That's a choke. You don't blow 5 point leads with 20 seconds to play. You just can't do that -- not with a title on the line!
I'll argue that the Spurs' choke job last night might be the second biggest choke in the history of sports. Why? Because of what they potentially lost.
It rivals the biggest choke ever, which was the Mets/Red Sox World Series in 1986. The Red Sox blew a 5-3 10th inning lead in Game 6 thanks to Bill Buckner's infamous error. The Mets went on to win Game 7 to steal the 1986 World Series. If the Heat win Game 7 tomorrow night they will steal an NBA Championship thanks to the Spurs.
If the Spurs win Game 7 this all goes away. It will be forgotten. If not, the Spurs have ended a great run in the most disastrous way.
