Why 8-Glasses Of Water A Day? It's Easy To Remember
DETROIT (WWJ) - According to the Mayo Clinic the old eight/8-ounce-glasses-of-water-each-day recommendation persists today because it's easy to remember.
The Institute of Medicine has reportedly determined that about 13 cups or approximately 3-liters of water is adequate for men. Just over 2 liters or 9 cups of water or fluids are recommended for women.
Water consumption is beneficial for flushing toxins from vital organs and keeping the body hydrated. We're further advised that the while water is best, our daily fluid intake doesn't always have to consist of water.
Other beverages also help as will foods such as watermelon and tomatoes.
Of course, depending on your health and level of exercise, you may require more fluids. Expectant women, for example, are advised to increase their fluid intake to about 10-cups per day while 13-cups of fluid per day is the recommended level for moms who are breast-feeding.
