Whole Foods Cutting 1,500 Jobs Before Holiday
DETROIT (WWJ) - Job cuts are coming to a big grocery chain.
Whole Foods, which has six stores in Michigan, will be reducing its work force by 1,500 or roughly 1.6 percent of its staff over the next eight weeks.
Whole Foods is looking to lower prices and keep up with competition.
The company says many of the reductions will come through attrition - they add that the hope is that many of the employees let go will find work within the company in states around the country.
Whole Foods says there will be about 2,000 open positions in the company across the company - or from new jobs that will be created from the 100 stores built throughout the country.
Whole Foods was recently hurt by bad publicity when New York City officials found it was overcharging customers.
