White Sox 5, Tigers 2
CHICAGO (WWJ) - Delmon Young hit a two-run shot in the seventh inning but it's not enough as the Detroit Tigers lose to the Chicago White Sox 5-2 on Friday.
As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - the Tigers (5-2) struggled offensively throughout the game - down 3-0 through six innings to the White Sox (3-3).
Max Scherzer went six innings giving up a home run to Dayan Viciedo in the fifth inning and then allowing two more runs in the six; Paul Konerko singled to score Alejandro De Aza and then Pierzynski tripled to bring in Konerko. Scherzer struck out 11 on the day.
"I thought he hit the strike zone pretty well," said Tigers head coach Jim Leyland of starting pitcher Scherzer.
When asked what his strategy would be for the rest of the Chicago series Leyland replied; "Out score the White Sox."
Jake Peavy went just over six innings for Chicago striking out eight.
The Tigers take on the White Sox again on Saturday - game time 4:10 p.m.
