When You Get A Billboard For High School Graduation ... What Can You Expect After College?
DETROIT (WWJ) - Most kids may get a card and a little cash from mom and dad for their high school graduation. But one Detroit girl got a giant gift from her parents, one that thousands of people see each day!
Freshly minted Detroit Country Day School graduate Kayla Hawkins started getting text messages from friends about the sign.
"This was definitely a surprise to me, I wasn't expecting it," said Kayla. " Kayla's sister also got a billboard two years ago when she graduated but Kayla tells WWJ Newsradio 950's Marie Osborne that she was still surprised by the roadside advertisement.
What did she think when friends started telling her she was on a billboard?
"Well, I was hoping that I would like the picture," she laughed. "And I was just excited ... I was just really excited."
Kayla's grandmother took her out for a ride and eventually made their way to the billboard.
Kayla's family won't say what they paid for the billboard, but most go for $3,000 -$4,000 a month.
