What's New At Cedar Point HalloWeekends
Cedar Point, based in Sandusky, Ohio, is a quick two- to three-hour drive from the Detroit area, and the best part about the amusement park is that it's open even as the weather gets cooler. Cedar Point is known for its Halloweekends, leading up to Halloween, and it always debuts new shows and treats for this time. Here are a few of the newest sights the park has to offer, as well as a listing of recurring attractions.

Trick-or-Treat with the Dinos

This is new for 2013 and will be especially popular with children. More than 50 "life-size animatronic dinosaurs" are available on Cedar Point's Trick-or-Treat trail this year. Trick-or-Treat with the Dinos is open Saturdays and Sundays, from noon to dusk, and separate admission is required.
There are four different mazes to choose from, but be aware that these aren't for the faint of heart. The Eden Musee, located near Mean Streak, is a museum filled with wax figures, from the benign to the creepy, and is open Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. The others include the Eternal Infirmary (near Wave Swinger), G.A. Boeckling's Eerie Estate (near Planet Snoopy) and the Zombie High School, new for 2013, located near the main entrance.

Scare Zones

If you wander into these areas, be forewarned. The performers want to scare you, and won't stop until you scream. These include the Blood on the Bayou, Carnevil, Cornstalkers, Cut Throat Cove, Maniacal Mechanical Screamworks and Fear Faire.

If you seek a show with live performances, look no further. Cedar Point has five unique shows that will keep you captivated. Choose from Gypsy Fortune Tellers (near Millennium Force tunnel), Halloween Hullabaloo (at the Good Time Theatre), "Sideshow ... A Carnival of Magic" (Jack Aldrich Theatre), Skeleton Crew (Celebration Plaza) or "The Edge of Madness: Infernal Nightmare" (Red Garter Saloon). If you're feeling adventurous, try all five or a mix of the shows.

General Information:
- Tickets to Cedar Point can be bought for $44.99 on the website. A single-day junior or senior pass is $29.99. You can also check AAA (if you are a member) or Meijer for discounted tickets.
- For the month of October (Halloweekends), Cedar Point is open weekends only (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays). Check the website for the official hours.
- From the Detroit area, take 75 South to 280 South towards the Ohio Turnpike/Cleveland. Take 80 East/90 East towards Cleveland, and then get on OH-4. Follow the signs from there to Cedar Point. The drive takes about two to three hours, depending on what city you're coming from.
- If you're a thrill-seeker, check out Cedar Point's Challenge Park, open select weekends in October. It's open to the public and you don't have to pay Cedar Point admission to get in - each ride has a separate admission fee. Challenge Park features rides such as the Skyscraper - which launches you 160 feet up; Challenge Racing, a race car track; and Challenge Golf, two 18-hole golf courses.
- Plan to pay for parking at Cedar Point - it's $15 for cars and motorcycles and $20 for oversized vehicles like campers, trailers and larger trucks. If you prefer to park as close to the park entrance as possible, Preferred Parking is offered for $25.
