Westland To Renovate Vacant Circuit City Building For New City Hall

WESTLAND (WWJ) - An old electronics store that has sat vacant since 2009 is going to be the future home of Westland's City Hall.

Mayor William Wild announced earlier this month that the City Council unanimously approved a purchase agreement for the vacant Circuit City building.

At a cost of $1.6 million, the 64,000 square foot facility is located on Warren Road in the center of Westland's "shop and dine" district.

Wild said the project will be funded with tax revenues generated by the city's Tax Increment Finance Authority.

"The City will invest in a comprehensive revitalization of the building, retrofitting it to create a modern, energy-efficient City Hall that will service our community for generations to come while better reflecting the quality of our community and its residents," Wild said in a statement.

Built in 1966, the current undersized 13,000 square foot City Hall has been plagued for years with basement flooding causing erosion of the land underneath the building, creating a sinkhole and compromising the structure's foundation.
