Westland Mother Of 4 Was Strangled; Person Of Interest Not Yet Charged

WESTLAND (WWJ) - Authorities in Westland are still determining if a man arrested in connection with the death of a 30-year-old single mother of four will face charges in her murder.

Rachel Watson was found dead inside her home in the 34000 block of Avondale just before midnight Wednesday, the same day she had apparently planned to meet with the father of her 1-year-old child to discuss ending their relationship.

After Watson failed to show up for work, her concerned co-workers contacted her relatives. Hours later, family members found Watson's body in the basement of her house, wrapped in blankets inside a closet. A spokesperson for the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said an autopsy indicated that Watson had been strangled.

A person of interest, described as Watson's current or former boyfriend, was taken into custody Thursday morning. Police have not yet released any information about the man.

Watson worked as a nurse at Heartland Health Care Center in Ann Arbor. Relatives say her four children range in age from 1- to 13-years-old.

Anyone who might have information on the case is urged to contact police at 734-722-9600.
