Westland Dad Gets 27-60 Years For Killing 3-Month-Old Son
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Westland man has received a 27- to 60-year prison sentence in the beating death of his 3-month-old son.
Joshua Wilson was sentenced Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit. He pleaded guilty April 5 to a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Joshua Wilson Jr.
Authorities say the infant died in December of blunt force trauma to the chest. Police said he had been severely beaten, with bruises from head to toe and broken bones.
Authorities have brought felony murder and first-degree child abuse charges against the baby's mother, Kelli Worth-McBride. She's awaiting the results of a competency exam and is due back in court July 8.
Family members say both parents are mentally ill and that Child Protective Services have been involved since the baby was born, according to reports.
