'Wellness & Epilepsy Conference' This Weekend
NOVI (WWJ) - The Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan's "Wellness & Epilepsy Conference" kicks off this weekend. People who have epilepsy, as well as their family members, will hear from professionals in the fields of neurology, psychology and epilepsy.
Olympic Cyclist, Marion Clignet is Keynote Speaker for the conference. Clignet was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 22.
"I was diagnosed with epilepsy and my driver's license was taken away for one year. So, my only form of transportation available for that next year was my bicycle," said Clignet.
"And my bicycle and I went on to win six world titles and two Olympic medals and break a world record," she said.
Clignet is excited to share her story with other with the condition.
"It's important for me to transmit the message to parents of children with epilepsy and grown adults who have epilepsy that it's not an obstacle that can't be overcome, and it's definitely not a handicap."
The conference kicks off Friday at 6 p,m,, at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Saturday's session starts at 8 a.m..
