Weird Al Yankovic Hopes Show Will Cheer Up Detroit
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Weird Al Yankovic is in Metro Detroit Thursday preparing for a one-night performance at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeill got a chance to talk with Yankovic -- who has made a career from parodying hit songs -- about his "Alpocalypse" show.
"I've heard from a lot of fans that my music has helped them get through some rough patches in their lives," Yankovic said. "Hopefully my music will have that effect on Detroit."
"It's over two hours long," Yankovic said. "It's me on stage with the same band that I've had since the beginning of recorded history. There's a lot of costume changes and film clips and a big LED screen. We call it a multimedia rock and comedy extravaganza."
Yankovic has parodied genres of music ranging from rock, pop, new wave and rap; and artists including Michael Jackson, Devo, Madonna, Nirvana and Coolio.
So, what's on Thursday's set list?
"'White and Nerdy' is one of my biggest hits to date so that's probably right on top of the list," Yankovic said.
He'll also perform other fan-favorites including "Amish Paradise", "Fat" and "Eat It."
