Weekend Roadwork Alert
The orange barrels will once again dot the landscape of local freeways this weekend, making for a slow go on several routes that are scheduled to be reduced to one lane.
- In St Clair Shores and Roseville, both directions of I-94 at the I-696 interchange Friday until Sunday night;
- In Monroe County, two sections of north and southbound I-75, between Nadeau Road and Dixie Highway, and from Laplaisance Road to Erie Road, Friday through Sunday morning;
- Telegraph Road southbound, between Orchard Lake and Square Lake, both ways at 12 Mile, all weekend.
Coming next week: Roseville and Eastpointe motorists are in for midday and afternoon tie-ups as a big construction project gets underway along I-94 in the eastern suburbs.
In order to repair the overpass damaged when a semi slammed into it last July, crews plan to take WB I-94 down to one lane at 9 Mile from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. every day next week. WWJ's John Bailey says traffic will slow to a crawl from the I-696 interchange, so plan to exit there and use the nearby surface streets like Gratiot or Groesbeck to bypass it.

I-96/I-696:In Macomb County, the existing two-lane ramp from eastbound I-696 to westbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday.
I-94:
In Macomb County, scheduled to begin on Monday, Oct. 18, westbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane daily at Nine Mile Road for repair to the overpass that was damaged by a high load hit on July 27. Each day, the restrictions will be put in place beginning at 9 a.m. and ending by 5 p.m. The daily lane restrictions are expected to be in place until Friday, Oct. 22. In Macomb County, eastbound and westbound I-94 will have alternating two lane closures for the installation of pavement markings between 8 Mile and 12 Mile roads. The restrictions begin at 9 p.m. on Friday and will end by 9 p.m. on Sunday.
In Detroit, tower lighting replacement at the I-94/M-10 (Lodge Freeway) interchange will require the closure of the ramp from eastbound I-94 to northbound M-10 beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14 and will remain closed until the evening hours on Thursday, Oct. 28. A detour will be posted for the ramp closure.
In Wayne County, pavement repair will close the right and center lanes of eastbound I-94 at Pelham Road, beginning at Midnight and ending by Noon on Saturday. From Noon Saturday until 5 a.m. on Monday, the right lane will be closed. The Pelham entrance ramp to eastbound I-94 will be closed from Midnight on Saturday until 5 a.m. on Monday.
I-75:
In Oakland County, the following ramp resurfacing work will be underway in conjunction with the project between Squirrel and Giddings roads.
Beginning at 5 a.m. and ending at 7 p.m. on Sunday, the following ramps will close intermittently for resurfacing:
Southbound I-75 to eastbound and westbound University Drive; Eastbound University Drive to southbound I-75 Westbound University Drive to southbound I-75; Southbound I-75 to westbound Chrysler Drive Eastbound Chrysler Drive to southbound University Drive
Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday and ending by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the following ramps will close intermittently for resurfacing: Southbound I-75 to westbound M-59; Southbound I-75 to eastbound M-59; Eastbound M-59 to southbound I-75; Westbound M-59 to southbound I-75
US-24 (Telegraph Road):
In Oakland County, northbound and southbound Telegraph will be reduced to a single lane at 12 Mile Road for paving beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday and ending by 5 p.m. on Sunday.
M-5:
In Oakland County, scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and end by 6 p.m. on Sunday, the two left lanes of northbound M-5 will be closed from 12 Mile to 13 Mile roads for pavement repair.
