Wayne County Hosts 3 Health Care Enrollment Events In March

DETROIT (WWJ) - With less than three weeks to go before the Obamacare sign-up deadline, the government is making a big push to get people enrolled.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says more than four million Americans have now enrolled in coverage through the ACA health insurance marketplace, with more than a third of February enrollees in the 18 to 34 age group, part of the so-called "Young Invincibles," which are critical to balancing out sicker, older enrollees.

Locally, Wayne County officials are making a county-wide push to get residents enrolled in Affordable Care and Medicaid expansion coverage plans through three, free "Cover the Uninsured" health expos this month.

"It's something that people will have access to that, in the past, at least 300,000 people here in Wayne County never had access to," said Wayne County executive Robert Ficano. "The used the emergency room basically as their medical clinic."
