Water Authority Funds Available To Help Customers With Bills
DETROIT (CBS DETROIT/AP) — You might be eligible for some relief on your next water bill.
The Great Lakes Water Authority is making available more than $1.2 million to help some customers in Detroit and Flint with current and past-due water bills.
The authority's board has approved the transfer of additional Water Residential Assistance Program funding. The program is targeted to water utility customers at or below 150% of the federal poverty threshold.
About $794,000 will be directed to Detroit, while about $427,700 is going to Flint.
The funding is from uncommitted 2018 bill assistance funds from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. More than 15,000 households are enrolled in the program. Eligible customers receive credit toward current bills with any arrears suspended for 12 to 24 months.
The authority provides water and wastewater services to 127 municipalities across southeastern Michigan.
