Warren Woman Charged In Death Of Newborn Daughter
WARREN (WWJ/AP) - A 25-year-old Macomb County woman has been charged in the death of her two-week-old daughter.
Charliette Stalling of Warren was arraigned Friday in Warren District Court on charges of felony murder and first-degree child abuse. She was denied bond and sent back to the county jail.
According to investigators, Stalling called 911 on Oct. 3 to report the baby was repeatedly vomiting, and directed emergency crews to her neighbor's house on Orchard Avenue just west of Van Dyke Avenue.
When crews arrived, they revived Jamiah Stalling and took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy performed several days later ruled the death a homicide by blunt-force trauma to the head. Officials said the baby had at least three skull fractures.
"We are shocked and heartbroken by the taking of this little girl's life," Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith said in a statement. "Nothing will bring her back. But we will work to bring justice for little Jamiah."
If convicted as charged Stalling faces up to life in prison. She's expected to get a court-appointed attorney.
