Warren Police Bust Major Drug Ring
WARREN (WWJ) - Warren officials are hailing the break-up of a major drug operation, in what they say is one of the largest drug busts ever in the city's history.
Warren Police Commissioner Jerry Green says the group sold marijuana and prescription drugs out of four separate apartments in one building near 12 Mile and Van Dyke.
"We took out an organized, street-level drug organization. We took them out of business," said Green. "It was an open-air drug market at that apartment complex. They had lookouts, they had surveillance people, they moved the narcotics on a daily basis. It was an organized group of people," he said.
"It took about five days to plan this raid, and it took about one minute to complete," said Green.
Six people were arrested. They are now facing 17 felony charges.
"We want to send a message to any would-be drug dealers in the surrounding area that Warren is not a good place to do business," said Warren Mayor Jim Fouts.
Police and many of the customers were high school students.
