Bond Set At $1 Million For Warren Man In Child Rape
WARREN (WWJ) - A 21-year-old Warren man has been arraigned on charges that he kidnapped and raped a 12-year-old boy.
Dajuan Gratton has been charged with criminal sexual assault.
The boy told investigators he was walking in the area of 12 Mile Road near Hoover when the man rode up to him on a bike, forced him behind a house and sexually assaulted him.
At Tuesday's arraignment, Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith's request for a high bond was granted by Judge Herman Campbell who set bail at $1 million.
Speaking to reporters, Smith called this one of the most heinous cases he's ever seen.
"This is a parent's worse night mare. Your 12-year-old son is walking home from a friend's house, which he's done hundreds of times before, and you have this defendant, allegedly, taking him off the street," Smith said.
Gratton was arrested when Macomb Community College security officers, who had earlier kicked him off campus, recognized him from a police sketch.
Smith said officers provided police with Gratton's name and address. When officers arrived at the residence, Gratton attempted to escape by jumping from a second floor balcony but was apprehended.
According to court records, Gratton has previous convictions for criminal sexual conduct, identity theft and failure to register as a sex offender.
He is due back in court on December 29.
