Warmer Temps A Sign Of Something More Serious?
DETROIT (WWJ) - It's been a March for the record books, weather-wise. So are the 80 degree highs predicted for the next two days a sign of global warming?
WWJ asked Perry Samson, a professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Michigan:
"The scientist in me says that this is a natural fluctuation in weather, which we have from time to time, and days will be warmer and days will be colder. On the other hand, here in Ann Arbor we've had two of the fifty year storms in the last couple of years, and it does ... raise questions from the public about what the heck is happening," said Samson.
Samson says the evidence of global warming is the increase in average temperatures around the globe.
"Global temperatures on average are going up, now to get into specific areas and specific weather events the question becomes far more difficult to pinpoint southeast Michigan," said Samson.
He says it's still unclear what effect that will have on major weather events like storms and tornadoes.
