Wanted: Man Who Squeezed Beneath Security Glass, Robbed Macomb County Building [PHOTOS]
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - Police are searching for a suspect after an overnight break-in at the Macomb County Administration Building.
According to Macomb County Sheriff's officials, employees with the Treasurer's Office noticed they were missing several items when they got into work Friday morning, including two empty cash register drawers, an iPod and a tablet.
A preliminary investigation revealed a man had entered the building, at 1 S. Main Street in downtown Mt. Clemens, just after 1 a.m., through a temporary construction entrance.
It was a tight fit, but Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the man was able to squeeze beneath the security glass at the clerk's counter. Once inside, he began to search the office area for valuables, rifling through employees' desks.
"We also know that the individual was able to make it into one of the tunnels that connects all three of the county buildings — the court building, the old county building, the administration building — and took a defibrillator off the wall," Wickersham told WWJ's Lauran Barthold.
The man then left on foot with the stolen items.
The suspect, seen on security images, is described as a black male wearing a light-colored baseball cap, dark-colored jacket, teal colored pants, and bright white shoes.
Wickersham said they've reviewed security footage and having been sharing it with other law enforcement agencies and local businesses in hopes of tracking this man down.
"Our investigators have been canvassing the area," the sheriff said. "Some of the merchants have seen him in and around the downtown area. So, you know, we're gonna keep working and I'm confident that at some point we'll be able to identify him and get him in custody."
Anyone who may know the suspect in the photos or who has any information about this crime is asked to call the Macomb County Sheriff's Office at 586-307-9412.
