Walnut Grove Campground Opens At Lower Huron Metropark
BELLEVILLE (WWJ) - There's almost no better way to officially kick off the start of summer than to go on a camping trip. And if you're wanting to experience a night in the great outdoors but don't want to drive too far away, a local Metropark has just what you're looking for.
The Walnut Grove Campground at Lower Huron Metropark in Belleville officially opened for business this weekend.
The campground, which is open daily through mid-October, offers the excitement of a camping vacation without the time and expense of a trip up north.
The campground offers 27 rustic campsites (no electricity or water hookups), suitable for tents, campers and motorhomes, that can be reserved for just $20 a night, plus park entry. Campsite reservations are recommended.

Campers are encouraged to bring walking shoes, bikes and/or inline skates to use the paved hike-bike trail, which connects Lower Huron to Willow and Oakwoods Metroparks. Fishing along the Huron River is easy to access at three fishing decks located within the park, as well as at the camp's river shoreline.

A regional park system, the Metroparks consist of 13 parks covering 25,000 acres, ten public golf courses and two marinas on Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair, respectively. The parks also offer scenic nature trails, beaches, educational activities and winter sports.
A Metroparks vehicle entry permit is required to enter any Metropark — $25 annually for regular admission, $15 annually for seniors, or $5 daily. Find more information at www.metroparks.com.
