Walmart Bass Fishing League To Host Event On St. Clair River
HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) - The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to St. Clair Sept. 24-25 for its fifth and final stop in the Michigan Division.
The two-day super tournament is expected to draw more than 400 boaters and co-anglers, who will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
Walmart FLW pro Art Ferguson of St. Clair Shores said he's excited for the tournament, but things could get tricky with the season change.
"This should be a phenomenal tournament, but the fish are transitioning into fall," Ferguson said in a release. "You have to look for shallow patterns because they will definitely be moving, but when you find them, they are quality fish."
Ferguson said he thinks a catch of 22 to 23 pounds per day will win the tournament.
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Metro Beach Metropark in Mount Clemens, at 6 a.m. each morning. Saturday's weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 2 p.m., and Sunday's final weigh-in is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Chesterfield Walmart. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
Registration for the tournament is on Friday, Sept. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a pretournament meeting at 6:30 p.m., at the Walmart store in Chesterfield, located at 45400 Market Place Boulevard.
