Walmart Bass Fishing League To Host Event On St. Clair River
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - The Walmart Bass Fishing League (BFL) is headed to the St. Clair River June 25 for the first of five stops in the Michigan Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.
"The fun part about this tournament is that there are a million different ways to catch fish," Kellogg's Frosted Flakes pro angler Dave Lefebre said in a statement. "If anglers stay in the river it is all current and they can use crankbaits and spinnerbaits."
"They can also fish Lake Erie which is all grass and use a drop-shot. I think there are going to be some huge weights caught; there could even be a record setting stringer. I think it will take at least 25 pounds to win with a possibility of a 28 pound sack," the fisherman said.
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Metro Beach Metropark located at 31300 Metro Parkway in Mount Clemens. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 am Saturday while weigh-in will begin at 2 pm. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy.
Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
Registration for the tournament is on Friday, June 24 from 4 to 6 pm, followed by a pretournament meeting at 6:30 pm, at the Walmart store in Chesterfield, 45400 Market Place Boulevard.
