Wallace In Court On Drunken Driving, Gun Charges
PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — Detroit Pistons center Ben Wallace is expected to be sentenced on misdemeanor charges of drunken driving and possessing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
The 37-year-old is to appear Tuesday morning before Oakland County Circuit Judge Shalina Kumar.
Wallace pleaded guilty last month. He was arrested about 3 a.m. on Sept. 24 in Bloomfield Township after officers observed a Cadillac Escalade being driven erratically. An unloaded pistol was in a backpack.
Officers said Wallace was given a blood-alcohol test and was above Michigan's legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Defense attorney Steven Fishman said Monday that he is "confident that Judge Kumar will be as fair with Mr. Wallace as she is with everyone else who appears before her."
Wallace helped the Pistons win the 2004 NBA title.
