Wall Street Journal: Suh Wants To Be A Billionaire

ALLEN PARK (CBS DETROIT) - Some players approach life after football with dread, not sure how they will occupy their time once they leave the game that has been their life. All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh might qualify as the exact opposite, planning for the next phase of his life even as he dominates in the NFL.

A lengthy article by the Wall Street Journal detailed how Suh - whom the author, Kevin Clark, described as "the NFL's secret finance nerd" - has cultivated relationships with businessmen such as billionaire Warren Buffet, former NBA player and restaurant investor Junior Bridgeman, and Coastal Carolina coach and former TD Ameritrade CEO Joe Moglia.

Suh told Clark he has the time management skills to focus on football but still position himself for future success away from the field. One example is how he spends his rare days off.

"I don't watch TV; I don't play videogames," Suh said. "I like reading contracts. I like just looking at business deals."

One of Suh's long-term goals is to become a billionaire, according to the article, which noted the former Cornhusker has already invested in condominiums and restaurant deals in Nebraska.

Whatever amount Suh commands on the free agent market following this season would be a considerable step to reaching that billionaire status. Defensive end J.J. Watt signed a $100 million deal earlier this year, and some have said Suh expects to receive a similar sum.

The Lions tried to sign Suh to a long-term extension before the season but could not strike a deal.
